Montrose Golf Links
Montrose Golf Links is composed of two 18 hole layouts – The Broomfield and the 1562 course. The 5th oldest golf course in the world is steeped in tradition and provides as firm a challenge today as it did back then. Montrose Golf Links is ideal for a 36 hole package for those who wish to experience the true nature of links golf.
The Broomfield course is the “easier” of the two courses – suited to juniors or families, it’s shorter in length and with less danger looming. However, it requires precision around the greens and a variety of different shots. The general consensus is to play this in the morning to warm up for the afternoons round and to get the confidence flowing.
The 1562 course at Montrose Golf Links is fantastic and a tough challenge if the wind is up. A relatively calm first hole up the hill is followed by the most picturesque tee shot on the second with the sea all down the right hand side. The stretch of holes that follow are some of the best around with short par 3’s, Driveable par 4’s and some elevated tees that show the course in all it’s beauty. Turning for home, the fairways start to narrow with gorse being more prominent and out of bounds lining the right hand side of many holes.
The natural and untouched beauty of Montrose Golf Links is there for all to see, an original Harry Colt design, it hasn’t been altered much over the years which makes these traditional links so special.
