Lahinch Golf Club
Home of the 2019 Irish Open won by Jon Rahm Lahinch is another of Irelands top class links courses and worth the longer drive if staying in Killarney or Tralee.
American golfers as practice for the Open Championship, Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods are regular visitors and Stewart Cink practiced here before winning the Claret Jug in 2009.
The Old course has a traditional out and back layout starting and ending in the town with some of the most stunning views in golf. Every shot on the golf course needs to be played with a lot of thought but it doesn’t feel like it’s trying to beat you up which makes it more enjoyable.
Holes of note on this course would have to be the blind 4th and 5th,. The par 3, 5th hole features a green tucked behind a large dune making it out of sight from the tee. The same type of dune can be encountered on the 4th hole for your second shot.
As well as the Old course there is also the Castle course at Lahinch golf club, not as formidable or well known as the old course it’s equally as enjoyable. With the 2 courses it makes it a good option as a destination in it’s own right.
