La Gomera  |  Tecina Golf 

Situated only a short ferry from Los Cristianos, the island of La Gomera is the hidden gem of the Canary Islands. With a population of just of 22,000 people, the island is a sanctuary for many a short escape from the busier island of Tenerife. You can feel your shoulders loosening off as you disembark at Puerto de San Sebastián de La Gomera from the Fred Olsen Express ferry, which takes less than an hour and is a very smooth journey across the Atlantic.

The back of the ship is the best place to be, so long as the wind isn’t too fierce. It is a great place to relax and take in some amazing views of Tenerife and shows off the highest point of Mount Teide fantastically towering over any clouds. There is ample seating located inside and outside, with TV’s, a café, shop and complimentary Wi-Fi aboard too.

Once in La Gomera, it is only a 45 minute self-drive or private transfer to Tecina Golf and Hotel Jardin Tecina. The drive takes you inland on a main road and upwards/around the island for some more incredible view back to the island of Tenerife. The landscape of La Gomera is beautiful, with many valleys and alcoves running down to the shore. Before the main roads were installed, Islanders created their own whistling language, such was the challenge of communicating between neighbouring towns.

You get a peak of Tecina Golf before you arrive at the hotel or clubhouse. The 1^st tee is the highest point of the course, playing 18 holes in a sort of slalom form to the 18^th green (the lowest part of the course). It is a superbly presented and organically gorgeous golf course, with wild flowers, palm trees and bushes present on nearly every hole. It has no need to be “dressed up” and it wouldn’t feel right either. It also boasts some of the best views that you will find on a golf course. Every hole will have a view of the ocean, even just a small peak out the corner of your eye, but it is there.

The golf course is very enjoyable to play, it might frustrate you in places on your first visit, but a second trip around will have you really appreciating the little nuances that make it a fantastic golf course.
