Infinitum Resort Visit 2022
The GolfKings team were back in the skies and on the course again recently, as John and Fraser were invited to Costa Daurada to play the newly branded Infinitum Hills and Infinitum Lakes golf courses, with the latter recently hosting DP World Tour’s ISPS Handa Championship in Spain. There was also a competition element to this weekend, with several golf industry professionals in attendance for the visit. How would the GolfKings contingent get on? Read on to find out…
Team GolfKings had tough start, with a very early rise and departure from Edinburgh Airport, flying into Barcelona-El Prat Airport. Then it was a transfer down South to Infinitum for a delicious tapas lunch and the tournament would be underway.
Round 1 was to be played across the beautifully picturesque Infinitum Hills Golf Course, with the course set up higher in the resort, there are great views of the Mediterranean Sea, over the tops of the umbrella pines that line the carpet like fairways. The Hills Course offers up birdie opportunities to those who play well off the tee, if you play any tee shot too wayward, there are commonly trees protecting the natural route to the putting surfaces – there is even the odd tree positioned devilishly in the middle of the fairway.
The presentation of the golf course is second to none and the fairways (when you can hit them) are an absolute joy to play from. The greens have been worked on tirelessly by the greenkeeping staff over the low seasons and it really showed, running very true and on the speedy side.
Team GolfKings got off to a quick start, with a few birdies in the front nine, paired with a well-managed back nine, and a birdie on the stunning 18th hole result in a first-round score of -4. Resulting in a good lead from their nearest competitors, going into the final round.
Infinitum Lakes Golf Course was the venue for Round 2, which is a completely different examination of your golf game, with a much flatter terrain to navigate and (as you might have guessed) water hazards lining fairways and guarding many of the greens. The fairways are more generous than on the Hills Course, with the defence being the water hazards and the snaggy lush rough. Being set in more open landscape, the wind is also a bigger factor during your round, making club selection key. With the DP World Tour only having just left the previous week, the rough was a bit longer than usually and should your driver not be behaving off the tee it was a serious ask to score well.
John was the form player for the day, with 3 birdies on his card and a collection of excellent par saves throughout the round. The scoring for day 2 was not up to the same high standard as day 1. Team GolfKings brought home a score of +3 over their second round of 18 holes, giving them a final score in the red of -1, which was enough to secure the victory and forever etch GolfKings in the history books of Infinitum Resort.
A massive thank you to Infinitum Resorts for hosting such a fantastic event, organised by Giles, Mireia & Rita.
