GolfKings visit to Mexico
Moon Palace Cancun
The first stop on my Cancun crusade and one of the most popular resorts in Mexico, Moon Palace Cancun. I was really impressed with the attention to detail by the staff and was recommended to try the steak restaurant for my dinner during check in. After a long flight, I duly agreed and after a superb sirloin, a couple of coronas and a margarita (when in Rome), I was off to my room for the evening and be up and at'em for my first full day.
Moon Palace Cancun OffersIt is easy to see why Moon Palace is the popular choice for many golfers in Mexico (and non-golfers too), there is a plethora of dining options, to keep everyone happy. Breakfast needs to be experienced to be believed, with so much variety that early in the morning, it is far too easy to get carried away and end up having 3 courses!
Golf at Moon Palace is the perfect introduction to golf in Mexico, you are in amongst the thick mangroves that engulf so much of the surrounding terrain. There are 27 holes to choose from, making it fantastic fun to play the different combinations during your stay. I was playing the Dunes and (aptly named) Jungle 9’s – with the Lakes 9 being closed for maintenance. Condition was excellent and the mix of holes on offer was great to keep you engaged throughout your round. The service is second to none, with food and drinks included throughout your round and in the clubhouse.
More about Moon Palace Golf >ATELIER Playa Mujeres
The newest hotel in GolfKings Mexico offerings, I was really excited to stay here for a couple of nights and was blown away by the hotel. Upon arrival it oozes 5 star luxury and the views from various spots in the hotel over the golf course and out to the Caribbean Sea are worth the stay alone. Then you are whisked to your room and it gets even better, with high spec fixtures and fittings and a great big comfy bed - even the toiletries were high end!
ATELIER Playa Mujeres OffersThere is nothing better than a beer on a balcony, overlooking the sea or a golf course, ATELIER has both! I was treated to surf and turf dinner at El Suspiro, which was incredible. The hotel has everything you could ever need for a golf holiday, or any holiday for that matter, with attentive staff ready to aid you at every turn.
Golf at Playa Mujeres on site at ATELIER is super convenient and only a short shuttle from the front desk of the hotel. We played in testing windy conditions, this meant that the course demanded maximum respect and full attention over every shot. The golf course is really enjoyable to play, with holes playing right down to the beach, giving great sea views.
More about Playa Mujeres Golf >Mayakoba Resort
Mayakoba is home to many different hotel options, catering for everybody, including a number of the world's best hoteliers.
Mayakoba Resort is large and expansive enough that it does not feel crowded by these hotels and structures though. Getting around is really easy, with complimentary bikes, as well as courtesy land and boat shuttles to your room and around the different areas of your chosen property.
El Camaleón Golf Course is on site for all of these hotels, offering a true 5 star championship golf experience from your moment of arrival, you are made to feel like a VIP.
4 unique hotel offerings on show at Mayakoba Resort, with each of them benefiting from unrivalled access to one of the best golf courses in Mexico, El Camaleón. Service is at the forefront of each properties ethos, where else would you be served fresh tacos on the golf course!
Whether you are looking for B&B or all-inclusive, there is definitely a property to suit.
It is clear to see why El Camaleón is regularly amongst the conversation for best golf courses in Mexico, with it claiming the number 1 spot on the east coast for many a visitor. It is extremely playable for those that wish to enjoy their holiday golf, whilst also offering a serious golfing test for the golfing purist wanting to take on the host of the PGA Mayakoba Classic and LIV Golf Mayakoba.
More about El CamaleĆ³n >Iberostar Grand Paraiso
The last hotel stay on my visit was at the brilliant Iberostar Grand Paraiso, which is only 30 minutes from Cancun Airport. We feature many Iberostar Hotels and Resorts in Europe, it is always a fantastic offering for lots of great golf destinations and with a high focus on the quality of their food and beverage, I knew I was in for a treat.
The Grand is the top option available and you are assigned your own butler on arrival, who looks after your entire stay, no matter how long (or in my case) short you are in resort. I need to give a mention to Fernando, who supplied me with 5 star, top class service.
Iberostar Grand Paraiso OffersA stunning beachfront hotel, with classic decor and a really luxurious ambiance, you are made to feel instantly at home and relaxed. The rooms are generous in size and the in room mini-bar is fully stocked and replenished daily with snacks, soft drinks and local beers.
Guests of JOIA Paraiso by Iberostar can dine at any of the restaurants in resort, with the options in the Grand only available to guests staying here. This means guests staying longer can dine around and not need to revisit anywhere for their dinner.
Playa Paraiso Golf Club is a Pete Dye design golf course and was my last round of golf in Mexico. What an absolute treat it was and a great way to finish my Mexico trip. The tees, fairways and greens were like carpet and an absolute dream to play. The front and back 9s are very different, with more jungle and tree-lined holes on the front and then coming home you need to keep the ball as dry as you can, avoiding lots of water hazards and creeks.

We were able to also play some extra rounds of golf on top of the golf resorts that we visited and stayed in. There are some great golf courses all the way doen the coast line, with something to suit any and every standard of golfer.
El Tinto is a great golf course to play the more relaxed golfer. It is close to Cancun Airport, so the perfect start to any golf holiday in Mexico. Fairways are generous and your food and drinks are included off the buggy bar during your round. It is a very fun golf course and might have had the comfiest golf carts I have ever had the pleasure of driving!
This golf course sure has the WOW factor, from the moment of arrival. It was a slightly longer transfer to visit here, but more than worth the journey. Loads of holes use the natural caves as hazards, making it visually stunning to play. I played particularly well, which helps.
The golf course is a stop on the Korn Ferry Tour and always presented in immaculate condition.
A very fair golf course, situated in Cancun, so a busier location than some of the other courses that we played. It was a great layout and felt a little like playing golf in the heart of the city, which was a lot of fun and completely different atmosphere than we were used to, with holes playing right down to the harbour. I loved it.
The golf course offers complimentary transfers to and from loads of the surrounding hotels.
