Castle Stuart Golf Links was designed by acclaimed American course architect Gil Hanse, who’s career has seen him entrusted with redesigns at Merion East, Winged Foot and Pinehurst No. 4 – which is quite the CV. Opened in 2009, it is one of a swath of new courses around Scotland that are giving the old guard a challenge in the rankings.

Nairn Dunbar Golf Club is found only a 10 minute from the town of Nairn. Smiles to welcome you in the clubhouse and on the course you will be greeted by splendid views out to the Moray Firth.

The course has a relatively gentile and friendly opening cluster of holes, Nairn Dunbar then quickly shows it’s teeth with a flurry or strong par 4s. You are then met by the par 3 eighth hole “Bodie”, a devilishly short and blind hole, with 4 deep bunkers defending the front of the minute green. If you do manage to find the putting surface from the tee, your birdie put will not be a long one.

After turning for home, you will need to navigate your shots round the trees, away from the gorse and definitely away from the pot bunkers. Measuring at 6800 yards, you will need to make the most of the run offered off the firm ground and it is very common to see members utilising the “Texas wedge” from well off the putting surface.

Fortrose & Rosemarkie has been host to some of the best National Championships there are and this is testament to the condition and layout of this wonderful true links golf course. The clubhouse is as hospitable as you will find anywhere in the world and we recommend trying the locally caught fish & chips if you have the chance.

Located in the heart of the Highland capital, Inverness Golf Club has a splendid parkland course with tree lined fairways and generous well manicured greens.  Established in 1883 and designed by George Smith and J J Fraser, with alterations made by the renowned course designer and 5 times open champion James Braid, the course provides an enjoyable and challenging test for any golfer.
