With idyllic weather, brilliant hotels and an abundance of fantastic golf courses, the Algarve is an excellent choice for a golf holiday. For the golfing purist, there are lots of courses that can be ticked off your list and if you are a beginner, there are some excellent academy courses too, especially Penina.
Vilamoura Golf Holidays
Vilamoura in Central Algarve is the iconic destination for golf holidays in the Algarve with many guests returning year after year. The resort enjoys excellent hotels, top-quality golf and a marina with fantastic bars and restaurants. Golf courses are outstanding – from the Old Course to the Vale Do Lobo duo of Ocean and Royal – there are so many championship courses here. Only 15 minutes away is the exclusive Vale Do Lobo area where you can stay in luxury at Dona Filipa and play San Lorenzo. Drive just 5 minutes further to Quinta Do Lago which hosts the North, South and Laranjal courses. This area is a favourite of many famous celebrities!
Vilamoura Golf Holidays >Western Algarve Golf Holidays
The Western Algarve is a perfect hybrid of Vilamoura and the Eastern Algarve. The towns of Alvor and Lagos are the main resorts that offer a more relaxed, authentic experience. The golf courses in the area are built around the natural landscapes and provide some very quirky holes; Palmares, Boavista and Amendoeira Faldo & OConnor are fantastic and have some of the best par 3’s you’ll play. For those who wish to capture Portugal at its finest and play some excellent golf, Western Algarve is for you.
Eastern Algarve Golf Holidays
The Eastern Algarve is much quieter than Vilamoura and the West. The town of Tavira is fantastic for a true Portuguese experience with excellent courses nearby including Quinta De Cima and Quinta Da Ria. Not far from Tavira is Monte Rei, said to be the best golf resort in Portugal – and arguably Europe! The 18 hole championship course is certainly one for the bucket list and they are working on another 18 holes which will make it even more attractive. We recommend staying in one of the outstanding Monte Rei villas.
How long are flights from UK to Faro?
Flights are approximately 3 hours from the UK. There are many flights to Faro with a great choice of early morning flights should you wish to head straight to the golf course on arrival or late afternoon departures to allow a round on your last day, we can arrange tee-times and flights to suit you. It’s ideal for group trips too if members are flying from various airports. With so many routes and multiple flights per day, it's easy to get everyone together around the same time so that nobody misses out on the fun!
If you want to add a little luxury, why not fly business class with British Airways from London airports.
What to expect upon arrival
We offer private transfers from the airport to your hotel. Our local representatives in Portugal are fantastic and will meet you at the airport and look after you throughout your stay. All transfer vehicles are fully air-conditioned and available for small and large groups.
Car hire in the Algarve is a great way to experience the area and keep costs down! It is an easy area to drive around and we book very reputable companies to optimise your arrival and departure experience.
Golfing in the Algarve - Weather Guide
Temperatures in the Algarve are excellent year-round for golf holidays. Warm sunshine coupled with the fresh sea breeze ensures you don’t overheat while golfing on one of the many championship golf courses. Especially during the hottest months of late June to August where it can really heat up. We would recommend visiting between March through to mid-June and September to early November where temperatures are slightly cooler and better suited to playing golf. Visiting the Algarve in the low season months of late November until the end of February and you will be rewarded with some great golfing weather. Typically, daytime temperatures are 18-20 degrees with blue skies a common feature. November to February is the best time to make the most of the great golf deals and availability at the more popular golf courses. We would recommend taking some warmer evening wear and an extra layer if golfing earlier in the morning.

We’d always recommend finishing your trip on a Championship quality course. Take a day-trip to Monte Rei and it will be unforgettable. You get a personalised bag-tag which is something to show off next time you are at your local golf club.
